I founded Colwell College Consulting after spending over 20 years in direct service to students as a teacher.

I began my career teaching in the New York City Public Schools while earning an M.S. in Early Childhood & Elementary Education from Bank Street College of Education. I taught elementary education for many years in public and private school settings in New York and California before developing a strong interest in higher education and increasing access to higher education.

This interest led me to return to school and I earned an M.A. in Higher Educational Leadership & Policy from California State University, Sacramento. I followed this by earning a certificate in Career & College Planning from the University of California, Berkeley.

I am a member of several professional organizations: WACAC (Western Association of College Admission Counselors) and HECA (Higher Education Consultants Association.

I regularly attend professional conferences and participate in online professional development opportunities provided through these organizations.

I abide by the Statement of Principles of Good Practice (SPGP) set out by NACAC. I visit approximately 20-25 colleges a year.

In my free time I am an alumni interviewer for my alma mater, Vassar College.
